State IB Group Meets at AIS
Atlanta International School hosted the first combined IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes meeting for IB schools in Georgia in January. International Baccalaureate Georgia (IBGA) is a sub-regional group that has been working with authorized IB Diploma schools for ten years. The group regularly runs "roundtable" meetings for coordinators and teachers to share ideas and practice.
This year, IBGA has added IB Middle Years and Primary Years Programme schools to the forum. AIS hosted coordinators from 18 Diploma (out of 22 in GA), seven MYP schools and 12 PYP schools. Each forum discussed a broad range of issues from student assessment and teacher training to support networks and university recognition. The PYP forum was co-hosted by Garden Hills Elementary School.
In addition, 17 IB Theory of Knowledge teachers participated in a separate roundtable meeting to discuss the implications of a new subject guide distributed by the IB Organization earlier this year. Brandon Rogers, Head of Grade 12, facilitated the meeting drawing on his experience as a Theory of Knowledge Workshop Leader.
AIS is proud to be a member of IBGA in supporting the ongoing development of IB Programmes in Georgia. This involvement, in addition to our collaboration with CASIE (Center for Advancement and Study of International Education) in supporting college fairs and teacher training, continues to earn AIS a reputation as a leading IB school.
