Teen Issues Presentation for Parents
Parents are invited to so many evening meetings, but this is one Secondary School parents won’t want to miss! Scott Fried will be our guest for three days in February, during which he will do two Upper School assemblies and meet with groups of students in Grades 9-12. When he visited last year, he truly connected with the students, and he was able to speak with them about some very difficult emotional issues. Everyone hung on his words during his assembly, and many students chose to talk with him privately during the rest of the time he was here. For this reason, we were anxious to invite him again.
His topic is “the things young people do to fill the holes in their hearts.” It’s difficult to be a teenager these days and, during the difficult times that all teens face, they sometimes make poor decisions and handle their problems by resorting to dangerous and unsafe behaviors involving sex, drugs, alcohol, unhealthy eating, running away, or questioning the values they have always held. Scott talks to students about alternative ways of handling their issues, and he reaches them. If it’s true that it takes a village to raise a child, this man has proven that he can help us to be there for the students, but you, the parents, are still the first line of defense in maintaining a healthy child through the difficult teen years. We hope you will choose to spend the evening with us on Tuesday, February 14 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
Middle School parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend, although Middle School students will not be meeting with Scott this year.
