Parent to Parent Program Offered Again

If you didn’t get a chance to attend the first Parent to Parent training, here is another opportunity! The Parent Organization’s Parent Programs Committee is offering this course in four two-hour sessions on Friday mornings starting March 17. This video based program helps parents become more aware of our "toxic culture" and it provides a chance for parents to discuss ways to handle the challenges of raising pre-teens and teenagers in this environment. The program is in its 18th year and its fourth version. It is being used by public, private, parochial, Jewish and Christian schools, churches, Sunday School classes, for-profit and non-profit corporations, and counseling centers.

Following internal evaluation and long term studies by outside sources, the Onondoga County Drug and Alcohol Commission in Syracuse New York reported that, as a result of their Parent To Parent program:

  • 89 percent of participants had a greater understanding of their role in preventing drug and alcohol use by their children
  • 91 percent changed the way they communicated with their children
  • 75 percent became more involved in community efforts aimed at alcohol or drugs
  • 91 percent talk more often with their children about drugs
  • 85 percent increased contact with parents of their children's friends.
