Atlanta International School Announces new Head of Middle School
Atlanta, February 6, 2006
Dr. Robert Brindley, Headmaster of Atlanta International School, announced earlier today that Marsha Huitt will be the next Head of Middle School effective July 1, 2006. Mrs. Huitt was chosen after an extensive international search that brought four highly qualified candidates to Atlanta International School on Monday, January 30 and Tuesday, January 31.
All four candidates went through an intensive interview process where they met with many different groups: Middle School parent representatives, an open Parent Forum, Faculty, staff, Middle School Student Council, Group Leaders, Curriculum Coordinators, Senior Management Team, the AIS President, and the Headmaster. As a result of this search, Marsha Huitt stood out as the best person to lead our Middle School.
Her background and qualifications are extensive. Marsha has been the Head of Middle School and a teacher at Valwood School in Valdosta, Georgia since April 1988, where she is responsible for the leadership and management of the middle school. Valwood is an independent K4 - 12 college preparatory school.
From 1983- 1985, Mrs. Huitt was the chairperson and an instructor at the Foundation Studies Division at Navajo Community College (now Dine College), in Tsaile, Arizona. She also instructed there from 1982 to 1983.
Prior to that, Marsha was a reading specialist for two years at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. From 1973 to 1975 she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Truk District, Micronesia where she taught teachers at the Truk Teacher Education Center and was an Assistant Director of the district elementary reading project.
She started her career as a primary school teacher in third grade and was also a teacher of elementary and junior high music.
The AIS community welcomes Marsha and we look forward to working with her in the 2006- 2007 school year.
