Learning to Look Art SeriesThis January, we will be displaying American-born artist, Jim Dine. Dine has been producing work for over 30 years. He now lives and works in Paris, France. This modern pop artist’s most recent body of work has included the famous image of Pinocchio. The piece below will be displayed along with the new edition of the book. This artist and his work will be very interesting for our students in all grades to discuss.
Pinocchio in a Caul, 2006 Dine’s printmaking starts with a basic image. Each time the artist views the image before him, he responds to it by drawing gestural marks and adding bits of color. Dine returns to his work several times, gradually adding to the background atmosphere and subtly manipulating the lines surrounding the image.
