Middle School Basketball Off to a Great Start

Middle school basketball is in full swing, and boys and girls are showing their can-do attitude on the court.

The boys “A” basketball team is off to a great start under the guidance of Coach Willie Richardson and headed into the holidays with a two-game winning streak. “The Middle School players have worked hard since day one and have made great improvements as players and young men. I have coached a lot of teams in my career, and I must say I have enjoyed this team the most.” Coach Richardson says that his team “consists of 12 MVP’s: Grant Andujar, Raul Bascumbe, Alex Case, Giles Geddes, Will Gendron, Derek Hirsch, James Ratchford, Adam Shore, Rogier ten Lohuis, Alexander Thomas, Mitchell Tracy, and Chris Wong.”

With a 3-1 record, the girls’ “A” basketball team has been very successful so far. “The team is very new, and we have a great team to build up,” said team member Sevana Ohanian. Elizabeth von Rosenstiel added,”So far we have had a very successful season and we all hope that you can come support us in our upcoming games.” The other members of the team working hard for Coach Veronica McDaniel are Ekua Awotwi, Ana Benkeser, Shea Johnson, Marie Lindheim, Alice Morrison, Naomi O’Halloran, Helen Recaborde, and Theresa Schmidt.

The boys’ community team had its first game in December and showed tremendous effort and hustle. They continue to work on the fundamentals of the game in practice to prepare them for a successful future in basketball. Under the guidance of Coaches Kourosh Doulkhani and Mark McDaniel, the team includes Kevin Assi, Felix Auer, Gabriel Cochet, Niklas Dorsch, George Lezhava, Sam Locke, Marin Lucic, Daniel Mansour, Jakob Mitchell, Shant Ohanian, Quinn Pratt, John Rudd, Timothee Schlumberger, and Liam Sohi.

The girls’ community basketball team has also been having a good season. Coach Gregg Albright noted, “The team has progressed significantly this season in their skill development and team play.” In their first game vs. Dar Un-Noor they scored a decisive victory, winning 34-4. The whole team contributed in the scoring column and provided tenacious defense: Alexandra Birkbeck, Alley Brooks, Sarah Darradji, Anais de Potesta, Lydia Katrin, Olivia Lodise, Leila Varzi, and Alexandra Zdonczyk.
