AIS Sets the Pace in a World Gone Flat
People today live and work in a new global economy without borders, where survival of the fittest and most adaptable counts in a competitive world market. The new buzzword since around the turn of this century is that "the world is flat." It is inspired by a book by Thomas L. Friedman with the same title. The book centers on the economic explosion of the world's two most populous nations, China and India. Friedman talks about how outsourcing and globalization within the manufacturing and service sectors in the past decade have made the world a level playing field, which leaves the impression of a flattened globe that sets universal market standards.
However, no matter how far back you go in time, there is one thing that has always been universal and shared by the different cultures in this world: The love of a parent for their child and the hope for a better future for the next generation. Parents worldwide make sacrifices to ensure the best education for their young and value education next to their child's health the most.
Education is slowly evolving internationally to meet the demands of a world gone flat. Kids must be able to think across disciplines and outside the box while collaborating in teams with a balanced approach to solving abstract problems – preferably in multiple languages. In the United States the number of IB schools has doubled since 2000 from 350 to 682. Atlanta International School, as an IB benchmark school, sets the pace for this evolution by providing an innovative global curriculum and resources to develop students' critical thinking, emotional intelligence, information literacy and problem solving skills—all in multiple languages.
We are fully aware that the newest technology, the best teachers, and top-quality classroom materials will propel our students to the highest levels of achievement. While goals such as character building and instilling values into our students are priceless, obtaining improved resources for their academic learning comes at a cost on top of tuition.
To obtain the resources to cover this cost we rely heavily on the generosity of our families to enable us to prepare today's young global citizens for tomorrow's world where survival of the fittest matters. Just as in the Stone Age—it's a jungle out there.
