June 9 - 13                 Culinary week (AIS families only)

Who is our top chef? We will cook, learn about food, make ice cream, go visit the local grocery store, learn to fold napkins, make center pieces for a table, and have a cook off. Parents are invited to enjoy a meal created and served by the students.

Meal presentation for parents: Friday, June 13 at 5 p.m.

June 16 - 20              Literary week

We will write and illustrate a book, make a comic strip, develop a story with others, learn how to read out loud like an actor, modernize a classic, and have fun with literacy. Students will put together a final book or comic strip they can take home. They will also listen to great stories and get to participate in a reading comprehension quiz, which includes prizes.

Reading out-loud to parents: Thursday, June 19 at 5 p.m.

June 23 – 27              Fitness is Fun!

Let’s dance, exercise, and learn together! We will find out more about nutrition, make smoothies, get to know the secret behind staying fit and healthy, and have lots of fun with group games and activities that make us move. All students can participate, and feel comfortable with their own achievements.

July 7 – 11                 Fairy Tales and Movie week

We will shoot a movie! Students will get to create the script, costumes, and their parts. There is also a lot to do behind the camera! Scenes need to be created and set up, the actors need to be directed, and don’t forget lighting and special sound effects. We will have a showing at the end of the week, complete with popcorn and beverages.

Movie showing for parents: Thursday, July 10 at 5 p.m.

July 14 – 18               Green Earth Week

What are some alternative energy sources out there? Can we create or use some ourselves? Students will do science experiments using wind or sun energy, plant flowers and trees, learn about packaging and the difference we all can make to keep our environment clean.

July 21 – 25               Soap Box Cars Week

Have you built something you can ride before? Well, neither have we! So let’s get together and create the coolest soap box cars, a space ship, and perhaps some model airplanes. There is lots to engineer, decorate, and pretend play, but hopefully some of our constructions will also drive or fly.

Showing off our ride to parents: Friday, July 24 at 2 p.m. / Barbeque 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

July 28 – Aug 1         Circus Week
