Volleyball Season Comments

Varsity Volleyball

The girls’ varsity volleyball team provided plenty of heart-pounding entertainment this fall, ending the season with the best overall school record AIS has ever had. Every game was close and exciting, and the team managed to pull out a win almost every time, bringing home a 15-6 record for the season and missing a qualification for the state playoffs by only one game. Several regular season victories were especially sweet as the team beat perennial powerhouses Walker and Pace for the first time in the school’s history. Coach Gregg Albright was pleased with the team’s success. “The girls were able to accomplish so much because they were dedicated, positive, and hard working. It was a great season.”
The highlight of the season was an incredible display of volleyball and school spirit on Senior Night. After ups and downs in the score and an almost continuous roar of songs, chants and cheers from a gym full of AIS supporters, the girls triumphed in an extremely close match against Whitefield Academy. Behind by 4 near the end of the pivotal third game, the team overcame the deficit to win 25-23. Fans and classmates poured out onto the gym floor, burying the team in a pile-up so large it covered one entire side of the volleyball court. The senior players were emotional after the match: “We had so many students supporting us, banging drums and painting their bodies blue and white. The support from our peers and our teammates made it an unforgettable experience.” Captain Bianca Paggi noted ”This past season has been amazing. The team really bonded.” Added Captain Caroline Geiger, “Everyone put their hearts into every match and every practice.” Anna DeOlano lead the team at the net with 168 kills and 67 blocks, followed by Claire Giblin with 102 kills. Paige Enfinger was the team’s most successful server, Stazi Owen lead the team in assists and Samantha Grayman controlled the back line with 72 digs. Senior Ericha Richardson brought her well-rounded volleyball skills to AIS from Venezuela, and Serena Benigno, Gisele Ferandel, Tanya Lancaster, Julia Lancaster, and Tatiana Manidis added depth to the team.

Junior Varsity Volleyball

The team had a talented lineup of players, including Julie Anquez, Alana Beserra, Sarah Branch, Nicole Dancz, Ariana Fabian, Annie Farrell, Parisa Frost, Annika McNally, Lucy Pages, Isabelle Recaborde, Kelsey Sanborn, Madison Scott, and Samantha Whatley. The team ended the season on high…winning in style the last 2 games, making our overall record 8-6. The girls worked well together throughout the season with each of them improving their skills and knowledge of the game. I am very proud of the team and hope some of them are successful in fighting for a spot in the Varsity team next year. Great team work!

Junior Varsity 2 Volleyball

What a great Season!
That’s what some of the girls in our JV2 team say about this past volleyball season at AIS. Having fun and learning skills was our focus for the past two months. We had a chance to play several matches throughout the season for which we set team goals and accomplishments during those games. The experience of playing, working and sharing as a team were some essential skills we learned hat will be useful during upcoming seasons. Team commitment, focusing and controlling the ball became other important goals that were pursued by several of the players on our team this season. Team members: Sabrina Newman, Elena Gallagher, Joanna Palmer, Ivana Lucic, Alyona Forbes, Kirsten Wenz, Marissa Jackson and Cecilia Winter.

A Team Volleyball

The A-Team volleyball had a great season this year. The team was very new to the game and we had a great team to build up. Event though there were some loses in general we played great! At some games we did not have our eyes on the prize but at other games we got really serious and play our game. Even though we lost couple of games, it did not even feel like it because we played so well and we were so proud of ourselves that the score did not matter! Overall we had a really fun and enjoyable season to be proud of. We were very lucky to be able to play other schools and had a chance to get to know each other and make friends. We had an awesome season and lots of fun! Team members: Julia Masselos, Naomi O’Halloran, Emilie Cohen, Helen Recaborde, Tabatha Yelos, Amelie Thieleman, Alexandra Birkbeck, Elise Duchamp, Alice Morrison, Chloe Colberg, Olivia Lodise, Savana Ohanian, Lydia Katrin, and Emmerence Lodise.

Community Volleyball

Coached by Laetitia Lo-Piccolo and Veronica McDaniel the Community Girls Volleyball team made impressive strides. Starting out the season with minimum experience the girls battled through some competitive home matches against Galloway and Cobb Christian. With a record turn out of about 30 participants on the team, the Community girls shared turns playing the opposition, and all players learned the basic techniques of serving, passing, and improved their communication skills. They grew as a team throughout the season and were a prime example of how to play on a team with a positive attitude. Members of the team: Anisa Amin, Alexandria Brooks, Alexis Myers, Anna Maria Triea, Imani Gaddy, Felipa Schmidt, Sarah Stebbins, Myhana Kerr, Marina Brand, Paula Fernández Begne, Valentina Amazonas, Claire Adair, Anjulique Cartier-Adams, Zoe Taylor, Louise McGirt, Mila Freeman, Marie Boudard, Alexandra Anton, Harper Shalloe, Shreya Shah, Emilie Forde, Camille Petitpré, Ivanna Martinez, Grace Melville and Shea Johnson.
