Applicants

AIS seeks students from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, linguistic and national backgrounds who will benefit from the challenging academic program and who will contribute to the life of the school. Qualified students are admitted at all grade levels, class size permitting. Students of all linguistic backgrounds are considered for admission, although students should be proficient in English to begin the IB program in eleventh grade. English for non-native speakers (ESL) classes are offered to students in grades one through ten. Support in Spanish, German and French is available as needed to students in grades one through five.

Admission Procedures

To submit an application for admission to Atlanta International School, you may:

The $100 Test and Application Fee must accompany the application. If submitting the form online, you may pay the application fee by MasterCard, Visa or American Express. If you do not wish to transmit your card number across the Internet, please call the main office at (404) 841-3891 to give that information.

Please submit applications by the following dates:

Applicants to 4K and 5K are screened for readiness to enter our dual language program. All applicants to primary school are tested in reading, writing and mathematics. Applicants to grades 6 and above are required to take the SSAT. (You can find more information at www.ssat.org.)

Age Requirements

The age of the applicant is an important factor in determining grade placement. The age requirements listed below should be considered when applying to Atlanta International School.

If your child is applying to:Applicant must be:
Four-year-old Kindergarten4 years old before September 1
Five-year-old Kindergarten5 years old before September 1
Grade 16 years old before September 1
Grade 2 and aboveConsidered individually if age differs from the usual age span of the students in the class.

School Records

Applicants will receive the necessary transcript release form and evaluation forms to submit to their current school once AIS is in receipt of the completed application form. School reports and recommendations are accepted in any language.

Admission Decisions

Members of the Admission Committee include Heads of Schools, language section teachers and the Director of Admission.

Admission Committee decisions are communicated to families in April, on a date agreed upon by the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS).

Financial Aid

Financial aid awards are based on documented financial need. The need is assessed by an independent agency, School & Student Service, in Princeton, New Jersey. Financial aid packages will be sent to parents who have indicated they will be applying for financial aid. Applications for admission to Atlanta International School and admission decisions are independent of applications for financial assistance. Student Visas

I-20 forms are issued only after the student has been offered a place at AIS. The student then presents the I-20 form to the US Immigration and Naturalization Service to obtain student status.

Transportation

A bus service operated by a private contractor, International Concepts, is available at an additional cost from some Atlanta vicinities. The information forms and routes for 2006-2007 are below. Please contact International Concepts at 678-947-4969 for more information.
